Your guide to Dallas arts & culture events January 2026

It's arts and culture time, and we're kicking off strong with the first month of the year!


Here is your essential guide to the most anticipated cultural moments happening right here in DFW.



Gallery receptions for artists Quel Hynson from 6-8 p.m. on January 9 and Lakeem Wilson from 2-4 p.m. on January 10. The Music Lounge will also take place that Friday evening featuring Reuben Lael at 8:30 p.m. on January 9.


South Dallas Cultural Center will host a showcase of films featuring three Black films: The Bombing of Osage Avenue, Don't Mess with Mill City, and Toxic Twins Documentary. There will be a post-screening talk after featuring Alendra Lyons, Changa Higgins, and Downwinders at Risk at 2:30 p.m. on January 18.


Join Oak Cliff Cultural Center for books, art, workshops, storytelling, live music performance, and more in celebration of American writer, anthropologist, folklorist, and documentary filmmaker, Zora Neale Hurston, born January 7, 1891. There will be virtual conversations, music, poetry, and refreshments. January 10, from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.


Oak Cliff Cultural Center has a monthly open mic night hosted by Christopher Soden. Expect a featured poet followed by poets with 5 minutes slots. This month's event will be held January 14 starting at 7 pm.


The comedian best known for sketch comedy on In Living Color and roles in movies such as Booty Call, Juwanna Mann, and Bamboozled, will perform a weekend of shows at Arlington Improv from January 9-11. Tickets available for 7-9:45 pm times starting at $34 for general admission.


The DBFF is an annual festival celebrating storytelling through Black cinema, poetry, food, and fashion with a week full of events. There will be creative panels, a comedy show, a poetry slam, and more in the midst of short films. The in-person festival will take place from January 28-February 2. Virtual festival is held February 1-8.


This weekly live music and open mic event takes place every Sunday at The Free Man. It's hosted by Verb Kulture starting at 5:30 p.m.


The Dock Open Mic will switch things up with spoken word contest in celebration of MLK Jr.. Chuck Jackson will be the featured poet for the night and select poets will be judged on their delivery and performance. January 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $9.31.


This recurring event is a night of artisans, canvas paintings, photography, live music, chocolate, and food vendors. It's at Lofty Spaces from January 22-23. Tickets start at $19 and can be found here.
