A Philly cheesesteak food truck has found a brick-and-mortar home in Fort Worth, just a little more than a year after debuting in the metroplex.
Vonte's Philly Cheesesteaks opened in early July in a renovated food hall space called Funky Town Food Hall just south of Downtown Fort Worth, which also features concepts like Wabi House and Share Tea. It was started by restaurant owner Davonte Fung. He wanted to have an authentic cheesesteak in the area.
Fung told me I was the very first to write an article about the food truck when he opened his Fort Worth food truck at The Local Bar (it was this one). He still keeps the menu small with one of the community favorites being the Philly egg rolls, which sell out early and often with locals ordering in bulk to share with their offices.
I tried the 8-inch Philly with everything on it: mushrooms, peppers, onions, mayo. Had to see if it lived up to the hype online, and sure enough, it did!
When I first tried it I thought it was really good. But then, with the ranch sauce poured on top, it took it to another level and complemented the flavors of the meat and mushrooms well. Sandwiches come in 8-inch and 12-inch options with customizable toppings.
