The FWC Dallas has released training kits emphasizing protecting human rights and reducing human trafficking during major sporting events such as the World Cup.
There will be six areas of focus: human trafficking, workers rights, accessibility, safety and non-discrimination, unsheltered population, and fair housing. They will also highlight cultural awareness through foods, signs in multiple languages, and interfaith accommodations.
Human Trafficking
Stakeholders noted trafficking as an area of concern in North Texas. It includes both labor and sexual trafficking and gender-based violence. The FWC is partnering with A21 to address it with three safety protocols and training tools.
Workers Rights
There will be cooling and misting stations created for workers and tents for their break stations. They also have a $15 minimum wage for workers during the World Cup, almost double the state minimum wage in Texas of $7.25.A self-assessment questionnaire determines what businesses they decide to partner with based on labor standards and contracting risks.
Accessibility
There are plans for a ride-along with DART for visitors with disabilities, accessible restrooms, service animals, and accessible rideshare options with Uber and Lyft.
Unsheltered Population
A collaboration with the Dallas organization Housing Forward will be used for outreach efforts and mapping homeless encampments around Fair Park.
Fair Housing
Tools and resources will be in place to ensure fair housing and combatting housing discrimination workers.
The final plan will be published in May. More details can be found here.
