Big Tex celebrates 74th birthday with special marker

Big Tex is celebrating a whopping 74 years! To mark the occasion, a historical marker will be raised in honor of the milestone birthday on October 4.
For 74 years, Big Tex has stood tall in Big Tex Circle, welcoming fairgoers from all walks of life to the annual State Fair of Texas. The historical marker will now serve as a permanent fixture in Big Tex Circle, highlighting the home of the 55-foot-tall talking cowboy
A special ceremony will feature the unveiling of a brand-new Texas Historical Marker in Big Tex Circle, where he will receive a Dr Pepper toast, a birthday cake baked by one of our Creative Arts contest winners, Chris Hughes, and a performance of “Happy Birthday” from John Pedigo, followed by the team's friends with Dallas Fire Rescue giving him a helping hand by blowing out his candles.
This marker highlights the area's significance and the icon that takes his place for 24 days each fall to welcome fairgoers through the gates with a hardy “Howdy, Folks!”
To end the celebration, Big Tex will be gifted a Big Tex-sized birthday card and a brand-new Historical Marker unveiled by the Dallas Historical Commission.
