All these restaurants closing in Dallas, and it's only July

Dallas has seen a slate of restaurant closures and announcements, just over the last couple of weeks! What's going on? I know restaurants come and go all the time, especially after spending years reporting on the food scene, but within a few days, I've kept track of about 6 closures.

Here's what's going (or has gone) kaput within the past month to the end of this month:

• Beto and Son

  One of the original standing Trinity Groves restaurants is leaving after 10 years on July 25. It was the last standing of the original restaurants, which included Sum Dang Good, Saint Roccos, and more. According to the Dallas Morning News, Beto Rodarte is retiring after 40 years in the industry and the lease is up.

• Kanvas Social

  Sports bar and lounge concept from Kitchen & Kocktails founder Kevin Kelley closed July 19. The restaurant announced the closure in a letter posted on Instagram stating "violence in Deep Ellum" as the reason. They first opened in 2024 and became a spot for bar crawls and mixer events hosted by local groups and organizations like run clubs looking for after-run spots and brunch. I went to one hosted on the rooftop. The food wasn't great, but the drinks made up for it.

• Sketches of Spain

  This Oak Cliff Spanish restaurant in Bishop Arts lasted before having one last sendoff on July 19. They were known for their tapas, paella, and sangria.

• Cantaritos Riverfront

  This outdoor restaurant and bar only briefly opened on July 1, and it's already closed! Located under the bridge at 600 S Riverfront Blvd., they provided a space for World Cup fans to after party and pre-game or ride to from Trak-Ass as seen in posts. The Fire Marshall shut them down this past Sunday.

• The HUB at Allen

  This outdoor food court and live entertainment concept in Allen closed on July 20. The HUB first opened in 2022, but had been a concept since 2014. According to the establishment's social media, daily programming was geared toward being family friendly and they also supported charity efforts. TheHub also noted that another group will be taking over ownership and reopening the space at an undetermined date.

  "However, the total spend in the submarket is not adequate to support the current concept - causing the challenges we faced," they shared in a post. "We invested millions every year to keep the project afloat, take care of our employees and keep delivering for the community."

• Soul Shack

  This Cedar Hill restaurant quickly became a celebrity hotspot when it opened the early part of last year, drawing visits from Shaq and even Keith Lee. It went dark sometime last month with no announcement on any of its social media as to why. Their website is gone and the Google page lists it as temporarily closed.

• On The Border

  On The Border filed for bankruptcy twice, and thise time was for good. The first time, that happened in 2025, Pappas Bros bought them out. This time, as of June 2026, all locations have closed. The Mexican restaurant chain was founded in Dallas 34 years ago and expanded nationally. There's even a location in South Korea, one of the few that will remain open, according to WFAA.
