Let's Explore Double D's, an old school bar with beats in the Design District

After months of yearning, I finally made it into Double D’s! I even tried getting in on Valentine’s Day (big mistake)—waited nearly an hour in near-freezing temps before giving up. But now I’m here in March, and at first… no DJ. I arrived at 7:10, and by 10:00, there was still no setup. I was about to lose it—then, right on the dot, the DJ showed up. Worth it.

Playing Uno in this place was on another level, too, devoid of all the rules I'm used to. Each round seemed to be under five minutes.

Double D’s is from Jeremy Elliott and the team behind This and That Hospitality (think The Whippersnapper, Tiny Victories, Sfuzzi), and they’ve nailed the bar-meets-dance-floor concept.

Drinks rotate between classics—think margaritas, martinis, and Cold Fashioneds—and wild house specials like the Lowdown (Cognac, bourbon, rum, mole bitters, amaro, tonka bean).

The vibes? Chill. The drinks? Strong. I had two Palomas—no regrets, and I see why they're considered the best in Dallas. Bonus: since I came early, I scored one of the "exclusive" couch seats. The bar has this cool retro-dive vibe, with a dance floor and pool hall twist. Now the appeal makes sense.

My second visit wasn’t quite as magical, but I got to catch a full Brandon Blue set, and honestly, that’s what mattered most.

Every night they have a DJ, but be sure to get there before 10 because you'll have quite a wait ahead of you, especially if it's a top notch DJ.
